An article on New Scientist covers a rather controversial finding that the speed of light "one of the most sacrosanct of the universal physical constants", may have been lower a few billion years ago. The debate primarily rests upon evidence that the fine structure constant alpha, which is inversely proportional to c, has measurably increased in the last few years, thus leading to this conclusion.
