Rediff reports that Bharti Televentures has signed an agreement to join the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-4 (SEA-ME-WE-4) consortium along with 15 global telecom operators to develop and own the next generation undersea cable system. Bharti is investing USD 40 million in the project estimated to cost USD 500 million.

This is among a list of many operators who have recently invested in bandwidth upgrades - Reliance et. al. Let's hope that we get to realise the fruits of their labour soon :)
