Microsoft has announced the availability of its localised, low cost, stripped down version of Windows XP - Windows XP Starter Edition. The announcement came after discussions between the Redmond giant and a GOI delegation led by IT minister Dayanidhi Maran. Other points of note from the meetings included the bundling the Windows operating system along with broadband and PC packages not unlike this one.

So why would anyone want to
So why would anyone want to pay Rs.1000-1500 for the XP starter edition, which is limited in hardware, software, longevity etc.etc. and not just use Linux which is free and devoid of any of the above restrictions.
Makes no sense.. unless the motivation behind this is to get MS to invest in other areas like education, egov etc.
