Rain, Pizza and Hypocrisy

The scene: It's half past eight in Chennai. It's been raining all day. Roads are flooded to an extent but traffic is still chugging along fine.

The need: Pizza to warm my innards.

M.O: I check the net and find the numbers for Pizza Hut and Domino's.

Pizza Hut's lines are busy, while Domino's answers. So I think to myself that this is a good time to put their "20 minutes nahin tho free" promise to the test. So, my interest is piqued [this incidentally is my first call to Domino's or any other pizza joint in India] and I start messing on my phone for something akin to a countdown timer.

So I'm all set when the phone is answered by this "dude" who speed-mumbles his welcome mantra of 3+ lines in about 2 seconds flat. I tell him that I would like a pizza delivered. He asks me where I reside, and I give him my address, which is at the most about 1500 metres from their premises. The next few lines go something like this:

[dude]: Sorry sir, no delivery. Flooding.
[me]: But it's not flooded anywhere here if you keep to the main road. My address is right on the main road - no side streets to navigate etc. etc.
[dude]: Sorry sir. Flooding.
[me]: But its the main road. [I give him directions involving 3 turns which would bring him right to my doorstep on roads which are not flooded even a little bit]. There is no flooding.
[dude]: Please hold. [mumbles something to somebody nearby]. Sorry sir. Flooding.
[me]: But.. like .. what about your TV ad? "30 minutes nahin tho free" and all that?
[dude]: Sorry sir. Flooding.
[me]: [Hang up]

So much for that then :S

I eventually got an order through to Pizza hut which is 1 block away from Domino's in question.. I'm still waiting for it to arrive though :/
